Early mornings on McDill Pond can be beautiful especially when the water is still reflecting a spectacular sunrise. Nature's 4th of July sky spectacle was better than produced by the celebration later that night. I was actually on my way to the Mead but noticed an early morning mist shrouding the water way. My decision to stay put was rewarded with this sunrise. In the distance you can find several ducks swimming within the mist and an osprey nest atop a telephone pole.
McDill Pond was formed in 1853 as an impoundment of the Plover River for the logging industry. Later, McDill Pond was included in the Village of McDill platted in 1873. The location is now part of Whiting, Wisconsin.
